Firm adds expertise to connect client strategy and operations, and expands internal thought leadership
BRENTWOOD, Tenn., and Chicago – Healthcare strategic communications firm Jarrard Phillips Cate & Hancock, Inc. has expanded its expertise in healthcare policy, strategy and content marketing with another round of hires.
Change in healthcare continues to accelerate, with physician groups being acquired by health systems, the need for advanced performance to improve both internal and external productivity, reimbursement pressure and a heightened focus on patient experience. As the healthcare industry evolves, Jarrard Inc. is expanding to directly address these client issues with both tactical insight and increased strategic awareness.

About the New Hires
James Cervantes, an expert in health systems management and strategic communications, has joined the firm as an associate vice president. Cervantes brings extensive knowledge to the firm’s National and Academic Health Systems Practice with his background in strategy, operations and performance improvement for healthcare providers. Before joining Jarrard, Cervantes led optimization and administrative operations for Northwestern Medicine’s Regional Medical Group. Previously, he served as an internal consultant and advisor to the Penn Medicine leadership team. Earlier, he held positions at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital and ECG Management Consultants in Washington, D.C.
He holds a BA in Business Administration and Journalism from Indiana University, Bloomington, and a Master’s in Health Systems Administration from Georgetown University.
David Shifrin, Ph.D. has brought more than a decade of research, content development and writing experience to the Jarrard team in his role as editorial manager. Responsible for coordination and execution of the firm’s content programs, he uses his expertise in curating ideas, formulating technical concepts and rendering them accessible across a range of audiences. He also helps clients develop robust thought leadership strategies.
Prior to joining Jarrard Inc., Shifrin owned his own firm, where he provided content production services to life science and healthcare companies. He then went on to join Health:Further where he managed the company’s blogs, podcasts, and industry research.
He holds a BS in Biology from Bryan College and a Ph.D. in Cell and Developmental Biology from Vanderbilt University.
Monica Haun has joined Jarrard Inc. as an associate advisor in the firm’s Regional Health Systems Practice, where she uses her knowledge of policy and communications to strategically position local healthcare clients. Previously, she served as an intern at the firm.
Prior to joining the Jarrard team, Haun helped lead a campaign with the American Democracy Project registering voters for the midterm elections. She also interned at Oak Ridge National Laboratory in the Nonreactor Nuclear Facilities Division.
She holds a BA in Political Science and Government, and a BS in Mass Communications/Media Studies from Middle Tennessee State University.
